“I had the pleasure of working with Jessica over a three (3) year period of time where she worked as not just a consultant, but as a wonderful partner in our orchestra’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work. She contributed to the discussion, provided direction and was a good source of wisdom as we created the structure, process, goals, and worked to build and integrate DEIB components throughout our orchestra. She has a wonderful ability to lead in a gentle, but firm manner and create a foundation of trust with those involved. I am grateful to have worked with Jessica.”

“In the summer of 2020, the Walla Walla Symphony (the longest running symphonic orchestra west of the Mississippi) embarked on a journey to integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) into the fabric of the organization. Early in the process we recognized the need to have a specialist who understands and has depth of experience in both worlds: the symphony, and DEIB. Without question, we chose the ideal person for the job. Jessica Schmidt lived up to our expectations and beyond. Her experience with orchestras both large and small; her insights from challenges and crises those organizations faced in issues of diversity and belonging (not to mention equity and inclusion) gave us the firm foundation on which to begin our fledgling work.
The timing was right. In the middle of her work with us, we lost our music director who had been with the symphony for 36 years. This gave us the opportunity to make DEIB prominent in the search process. As a member of the symphony Board, the DEIB committee, and the search committee, I had a front row seat to view and see the wisdom of Jessica blossom into empirical reality. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging pervaded every aspect of the search process. The very successful search, and the elevated new heights that the Walla Walla Symphony has attained is due in large part to the exceptional working relationship with this superb consultant, Jessica Schmidt.”

“Walla Walla Symphony’s experience for the last four years with consultant Jessica Schmidt, of Orchestrate Inclusion, has been truly transformative for our organization. Her invaluable guidance has allowed us to make significant, concrete progress in our journey to become a more community-minded and diverse orchestra and has encouraged us to look within ourselves and our policies with honesty and compassion. Jessica is expert at guiding conversations through difficult and personal topics, is a gifted facilitator of learning projects, and always keeps the big picture in mind as each small step is taken toward greater inclusivity. As a musician herself, she knows the culture of the orchestra world; we have always felt seen and understood even though we are not a fully professional orchestra and are situated in a rural part of Washington State. I would recommend her to any organization that wants to make meaningful and positive impact on every facet of their communities.”
